living by the sea: our living room

Our living room is the whole reason I wanted to buy this house in the first place. Bear with me now...can you picture that panelling painted? I could! My husband, not so much. It took some discussing before we both agreed. The room has a lot of natural lighting from the patio doors. There's no deck off the doors, but there will be this summer, hopefully!

The living room and adjoining office (which we turned into our bedroom) were added to the house a few years after it was built. Instead of building it at the same level, for some reason I don't know, it was built higher up. This adds an extra level to our house, which is fine since we're young, but I can see why the elderly couple we bought the house from couldn't do it any longer.

Next up, our bedroom!

living by the sea: the dining room & kitchen

Last time, we took a peek at the rooms down the hall in our home by the sea. Today, we're looking at what my dining room and kitchen used to look like!

This carpet - ugly, right? Well, when you flipped up the rug, there was a clear indicator that the carpet used to be brown, not greenish yellow. Still, the room is a good size!

The kitchen hasn't changed - except a coat of paint on the walls and a good scrubbing from ceiling to floor. I have plans to paint the cupboards, but my husband and I can't agree on what colour. I want to go white (and replace the counter tops) but he likes dark cupboards. We may end up leaving it until we get to Phase 2 of our renovations in a few years.

Did you see that sliver of a glimpse of our living room? We'll check it out the next time. It's one of my favourite places to be, now that it's undergone renovations!

living by the sea: our front entry

A year ago we purchased our home and immediately set about changing things! Over the next little while I'll be posting some before shots. Our not-so-little home by the sea came at the right price, but looked like it belonged to the wrong decade! Yellow walls with a dusty rose door, and oh that delightful carpet! It didn't just stop at the front entrance. Our entire home was filled with old, dusty, smelly carpet, which we promptly tore up the first weekend we owned the house.

This red carpet goes through most of the basement, but we're not ready to renovate it yet. The carpet is in really good shape and doesn't look too terrible if I keep it vacuumed.

The carpet on the stairs up to the dining room came out right away, but that is the only thing we've done to the entrance as far as renovations are concerned. It's the only space on our main floor that remains untouched right now, but we have plans to fix it up this spring.

More of the tour to come later!

our wedding day: a small glimpse

Our wedding day will forever be cemented in my mind as one of my favourite days. We had such a fun time with family and friends, and we (finally) became Mr. & Mrs.! It was the start to a beautiful, wonderful life. The following are just a few of my favourite shots from our day, all taken by the talented Simon Reid.
